From the Ground Up – Framing

Good Monday Morning! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. There has been PROGRESS at the new home site. Yippee!
When I drove around the corner and saw this first picture, my jaw literally dropped. I couldn’t believe they were able to accomplish this much in a week. We have had glorious spring weather so I guess that has a lot to do with it!

This picture and the one above are from the SE angle of the front of the house.  They are wrapping it and sealing it as they go. They promise us that the house will be VERY energy efficient!  I think this is one of the steps along that process.

The 3 windows are on the west side of the family room and the other 2 windows on the main floor will be the dining room. Yep, that is my small back yard. I have been having fun looking on Pinterest for small space landscaping ideas!

We will have an alley-load garage which I am very happy about.  The garage will connect directly to the mudroom (or as I like to call it, Diana’s purse and coat room).

This is the north side of the house and there will be another house right next to us. I’m glad that there aren’t too many windows on this side.

I am standing near the front door when I took this shot. I am looking into the family room.

The stairs are on the left after you walk in the front door.

That little wall is the tiny division between the dining room and the family room.  The family room, dining room and kitchen are all an open space area!  That way I can cook and still be a part of what the rest of the family is doing.

On your right when you come in the front door will be the library.  It has a pretty view to the East since there is open space across the street. It might be nice and sunny in the mornings to enjoy breakfast.

There is a hint of a barrel vault that defines the entry from the rest of the house.  In the near future I will need help deciding how to define this space. Paneling, different color, ????

Here is my favorite room!!  Any guesses???  Even though I am not a great cook, I do enjoy spending time in the kitchen.  It seems like everyone always wants to be in the kitchen so I am thrilled that this is so open.  Even after 30 (almost) years of marriage, I am still not a very good cook but I have been told that I can whip up a fantastic German Chocolate Cake.  I love baking.  I love the precision of it all.  I love following a recipe so I guess that is why I lack in the creative cooking dept.  But, boy oh boy, if you come to my house you will never want for a chocolate chip cookie. They are always around!

That is the pantry door on the right and the laundry room door on the left.  I have chalkboard ideas for the pantry door on the outside and cork on the inside so I can hide all those reminder notes.

This is looking towards the mud room and the garage!

So far this is the only mistake that has been made. I didn’t want these 2 arched open bookcases in the Master Bath. The master bathroom is kind of narrow and long so I wanted as much width as possible. Unfortunately the arch on the ceiling has also been finished to end at the bookcase but they will take all of that out and rebuild the arch so that it ends at the wall.  I just didn’t need open bookcase /clutter catchers in my bathroom.  I would  rather put a cute bench or skinny piece of furniture in that space.

This is the loft.  Our builder, David Weekley, has been so amazing. This used to be 2 rooms and 2 closets. They reconfigured it for us so that we could have a large open space. They also built a small closet elsewhere to make up for the 2 closets that we didn’t have room for.  We plan on putting a pool table and seating area in this space. In other words this our version of the “Man Cave”.  Although at our house we might call it the Lizard Space. My husband loves the sun so I can just see him sitting in the 2 far corner windows soaking in the sun!

We will have a guest room up here on the 2nd level

And last but not least, my craft room!  I will have a view off to the East like I described before so it should be nice and sunny too!

Thanks for coming along on our framing tour. Windows will be in next week and possibly some of the electrical!

Kayla and I are thinking about doing a few product reviews on our blog.  Do you have any suggestions for things that you would like to see us review???   As simple as Velvet Hangars or maybe a new labeling machine.  Anything that you would like for us to try before you purchase?  Just let us know!

Happy Day to all!

Oh my word, it's coming along quick! You've definitely put lots of thought into the details and it shows. Do you have a projected closing date?

  2. Wow, they are moving along! Love the low maintenance and intimate little yard and those sunny east facing rooms will be a delight! Thanks for the update!

Diana, I can't believe how much work has been done. I enjoy following the progress. The idea of a library is great and how wonderful to have a craft room. Will the wine cellar be in the basement. Congrats to you and Dan!
